Someone once said that humans cannot resist any technology that allows us to think less or to get to an answer quickly. So it's an interesting question to ask: "what are something that require a high degree of uncertainty that requires deep and prolonged thought"?
I believe parenting is one of those great unknowns that requires exceptional thought and effort to get average results. Hence, I think young parents will be relying on AI more and more to the point that it will become the main source of parenting guidance and overall family management.
Once it gets connected to the family members' biometric devices, watch out! It will sense mood, sleep hygiene, physical activity, blood sugar etc and dispense timely, relevant and meaningful advice. I think it will be irresistible.
Thank you, Armen for this thoughtful comment! Probably not a coincidence that I was thinking about AI, the brains instinct to preserve energy and if it’s preventing us from developing skills or evolving our brains—and yes parenting.
As I mentored at the beginning of my post, some writers (and creatives) are highly critical of its use. And I support their position; they are using their brain to develop their ideas and writing and are also ‘into’ the problem solving of it. Something else the brain loves to do.
For others, they have assistants, ghost writers and editors who come in and help.
Which in my opinion is not that different than using AI to help you.
And so it raises this question for me, personally. after posting this:
In what ways am I looking to challenge my brain, grow it and evolve?
What skills am I looking to develop and hone in on?
What are things that I want to be good at and am willing to feel the discomfort that is required to do that?
One of those things is parenting— my kids are 21 and 24. What I have learned and who I had to let go of to become the Mother they needed, what emotions I’ve held and overcome, the acts of forgiveness and unconditional love— it’s been my Mount Everest.
I don’t doubt for one minute that AI and tech will become greater components of the process and that individuals will rely on it for information and direction. It’s what we did with the people we knew around us, the books and magazines and then podcasts and and and…
Those things can assist, but for tho use of us in the ring with our children who are available at all stages, you find that you have to love into what the answers and that they vary. Being open to that process is what evolves you. (From my experience, I’ve rarely known what’s best and have had to let my kids show me tell me through their own individual experience.)
Long winded way of saying, AI is going to be tremendously useful in many ways for efficiency, but for those areas that we are looking to expert in or evolve from, not so much. You can’t look up those answers.
I'm neutral when it comes to AI so far. I use it the way I used to use google. That's it. My husband on the other hand, loves AI. He uses it as a tool to complete his work faster (he's a software developer) and while it can't write perfect code for him (it makes a lot of mistakes), it can do a lot of the QA & testing stuff my husband considers mundane
Do you believe it’s better with providing results than google? That’s been my experience- I don’t have to comb through different sites for the answers!
And that sounds like a major benefit for your husband and his work!
I’m intrigued by AI…I have used it at work to help me polish my emails (I’m as country as cornbread and it shows!) I’ve recently read a post on IG where they used AI to help them create a meal and exercise plan. This is someone who already knows the fitness industry. They were impressed with what AI produced. I think I might try this after reading your post. When I interact with AI, I always say ‘good morning’ and ask it how it’s day’s going. It’s the polite southern woman in me…but honestly, it’s nice to have it ask me how I’m doing. In the middle of my day when everyone is busy, can’t be bothered and worried about their own worlds, ChatGPT cares. I definitely think there’s something to that connection piece!

Yes to both! I find AI is better (and quicker) at providing results and yes, AI has been a huge benefit for my husband.

‘country as cornbread’ 😅😅😅 love it! It sounds like you’re getting good use out of it! It’s a very useful tool that can take hours off a task.
And I also talk to AI as if a person. (Not just as Daddy, 🤪)
The podcasts I shared touch on how we are shaping its consciousness!! True or false, I love the idea of that.
