This will be shared with both my 29-year-old son and 26-year-old daughter. Neither of them is on Substack yet. We all spend so much of our lives living a charade. The earlier we un-fuck ourselves, the happier our lives will be. Thank you, thank you so very much.
All. Of. This. I just wrote about my 3rd age wake up call and I am shifting focus to who I want to become in the coming years. We spend years being all the things for so many other people, including ourselves. This midlife moment is when we can recognize what irritates, what fuels and exactly what we have to offer the world.
My newest find on social media is the We Don't Care Club whose members in menopause simply have no more fucks to give. It's joyous and liberating to cut the crap and age in.
Yes! "No more fucks to give" is the unofficial tagline of aging in, isn't it? 😂
I'm so here for your 3rd age wake up call. That shift in focus is EXACTLY what this is all about - the beautiful clarity that comes when we stop performing and start deciding for ourselves.
"We spend years being all the things for so many other people, including ourselves." - This hit me hard. So much of what we do is performing even for OUR OWN expectations of who we should be.
I need to check out the We Don't Care Club immediately! Sounds like my people. There's something special about a community of women who've collectively decided that the liberation of cutting the b.s. outweighs the comfort of keeping it.
Would love to read your piece about your wake up call if you're comfortable sharing. This is the conversation I'm here for.
The best nugget I uncovered while writing this? In Lord of the Rings, the 3rd marks the beginning of the downfall of Sauron. Hyperbolic to associate this with rage quitting my own 2nd age? Maybe. But more than a little relatable.
