On The Sex is Great Podcast, I'm Sharing A Practice to Process Your Emotions
This week on The Sex is Great, I am talking about the human instinct and socialization to avoid processing our feelings. Some people are good at compartmenting them, others avoiding. Then there are some who go into full catastrophe mode and are in a state of emotional reactivity.
Emotions are natural and a necessary part of the human experience. Societal norms encourage us to repress and suppress our emotions. Don’t get mad! Everything’s fine!
It’s human instinct to want to avoid feeling pain, including emotional pain.
What if I told you by leaning into your painful emotions like heartbreak, jealousy or anger your personal experience would be less painful.
That the consequences of avoiding, numbing and indulging in them compound more pain. What’s worse, it wreaks havoc on your nervous system causing mental and health issues.
That you don’t have to engage with the outside world or other people to heal?
Tune in to this week’s episode where I’m sharing with you how you can process your authentic, albeit painful emotions, without judgment and free yourself from the pain.
Emotions are neither right nor wrong, but simply a part of being human.
To actively engage with our emotions and literally move them through our bodies, I’m introducing a practice created by Mama Gena called "swamping" – a powerful tool that allows oneself to deeply feel and physically express without judgment, and fully release your emotions.
Combine this with our usual thought work and you’ll be soon become a new version of yourself.
A fuller more alive version.
You will discover how to:
Externalize thoughts and feelings on paper.
Create a safe space for processing.
Identify and describe the pain.
Allow the pain without judgment.
Observe thoughts and sensations.
Channel emotions physically through movement and expression.
Learning to process emotions, enabling ourselves to better manage our internal experiences will ultimately lead us to a more empowered life.
Let’s learn to lose ourselves in the moment, not the (hu)man.
